Been a While

Havn't felt like crafting over the last two weeks, but I pulled my finger out yeaterday and altered these two little mini blackboards. I picked them up in the sale a few weeks ago for the bargin price of £1.95 each! I got them from my most favorite shop called My House.

I wanted to make a little scrapbook page for both my kids and put them inside the frames. I used My minds eye papers, flowers, stamps, buttons, fabric brads and ribbons.

I love the way they have tuened out and I have hung them up in my craft room. Might see if I can get a couple more....!

I did this LO last week. Its of my Daughter and her two friends after their very first performance with Fusion Arts. They all do Hip Hop level one. I was annoyed that I wasn't allowed to take photos during the show but I managed to get this one after they came off stage.
The papers are October Afternoon on Kraft c/s.

Crafty snow days

The snow finally seems to be melting but the weather reports say we will get more tonight. I really hope not, I must be getting old as it was fun for a couple of days but now its peeing me off!
I have had more time for crafting though so thats a bonus. My sister dragged her wheelie tote of craft stuff all through the snow and ice on Saturday to come and do some crafting with me as we had to cancel our crop. We were looking through the Handmade magazine and saw a little banner that said NEST so we thought we would have a go at making our own versions.
I made this one for my craft room and have hung it on my cupboard door.
I used cardboard as the base, scraps from my scrapbox, bits of corragated card, stamps, primas and gems. I cut the letters on my Slice and hung a little chipboard heart from one of the tags.

My daughter loved it so on Sunday I sat down with her to make one for her bedroom. She chose all the papers and embellishments and helped to ink it and stick everything on.

Then my son, feeling left out wanted one as well. This was a bit of a challenge as hes nearly 13 and all my embellies are girly! My sis had given me some wizard embellishments so we used these as he loves magic and fantasy.
I am pleased with how well they have turned out and they look great hanging above the doors of the kids bedrooms.

I did this LO today with a photo taken last wednesday of us (the Scott family) in the snow. Ladybird came up with the title as soon as she took the photo!
I used kraft c/s and leftover PP from my JYC which was cosmo cricket, jolly by golly. A little snowflake from paperchase and an october afternoon journalling card finish it off.

And then there were two!

We woke up this morning to find that another snowman had mysteriously joined the first one! I think shes actually a snowwomen!
I woke up at 3.30am and looked out the window and their were my mad neighbours building a girlfriend for their mamouth snowman. Shes not quite as tall but just as spectacular.

I'm wondering if tomorrow will bring a son or daughter snowperson!

I brought the new crochet magazine that came out last month. The members of the friendship group that I run wanted to learn crochet so I found someone to come in and teach us but I thought I'd get a bit of a head start with this mag. I have been practising for the last week and I think I'm just begining to get the hang of the simpler stitches.

I want to be able to make crochet flowers for my scrapbook pages so I got some books out of the library, but they are not so easy to understand!

Heres my first attempt though! I didn't really understand the directions so I just went my own way with it and I don't think it's turned out too bad!

Isle of WHITE!

Well, it started snowing here at 5pm yesterday and has only stopped for a few hours in between. The Isle of Wight NEVER gets loads of snow and I can only remember once in my 35 years where the snow lasted for more than 2 days.
We took the kids out in it last night for a play as we were worried it would all be gone by the morning but it was still here and its still snowing now. The only problem is the Island comes to a complete standstill. It had only been snowing an hour when the bus service on the Island was cancelled, leaving 50 people stranded at the bus station last night! Cars were being abandonded all over the place and there were 3 pretty serious accidents on the main Ryde to Newport road all before 7pm.
When I went to bed at midnight last night, I looked out of the window(to check the snow was still there!) and my neighbours across the road were outside building a mamouth snowman(Adult neighbours mind you!). I watched them for an hour and when they then produced a step ladder so they could put the head on it I had to go out and get some photos! So theres me in my PJs and wellies, in the street, in the snow, taking photos of my mad neighbours at 1.00 in the morning! They were having so much fun and I just thought how great, to keep that childish innocence when it comes to playing in the snow.
The photos were not great as it was dark....
This is Shay with his shovel, the other pics didn't come out well at all because Paul his Dad was wearing a reflective jacket which just kept bouncing the flash back at me, so this is the only good pic from last night, but....

this was the snowman at 8am this morning. Complete with scarf, carrot, buttons and a black bucket for a top hat! With the hat he is over 7 foot tall!

What a wonderful surprise for all the kids in the neighbourhood to wake up and find this giant snowman had materialised in the night!

Caleb playing in the snow

Shelby

Willow and Diggory with their snowball legs.
Poor doggies, I didn't realise that the snow would form these huge clots on their legs. At one point willow couldn't walk properly she was so weighted down. We kept trying to get them off and they would just build up again so we cut our playtime short and brought them home and put them in a warm bath, a warm blanket and some food and they were fine. I don't think i will walk willow tomorrow even though she had so much fun leaping about.
I hope you are all having fun in the snow and keeping safe, thanks for looking x

Mushrooms and bugs!

When Paige kidnapped me on my birthday (to get me out the house while my sister made me a surprise dinner) we went to her house and made these little mushrooms. They were from another blog, sorry I don't know which one but you can probably find it on ladybugs blog. I thought they were really sweet and it got me thinking......

Could I make a ladybug for Paige? So last night I sat down and drew a pattern out, cut the pieces from felt and dadah....

A little lovebug ladybird for Paige!
I stuffed each black spot on her back and added a little felt heart to just to personalise her. The eyes are felt with a little black bead sewn on each one. I wanted to add her antene but felt didn't work for them and I only had white pipe cleaners, so she has no antene or legs, but she looks happy enough!

I am going to Paiges in a minute so I will take her along and hopefully she will cheer her up as Paige has a poorly shoulder at the moment.

Warning..heavy photo post!!

I have not blogged in a long time what with Xmas and all and now I am in trouble with Ladybird (Paige) for not keeping my blog updated! So this post is a tiny bit photo heavy and some of those photos are blurry but I couldn't be bothered to do them again!

I will start with my JYC. This year its more a diary of December, only using prompts from Shimele when I didn't do anything particular that day.

14th quiz night at the kids school (we came 3rd!)

15th my daughters xmas play, the envelope holds the programe, carol sheet and the quiz sheet from quiz night

16th a photo I took for the leaflets for the friendship group

17th - the gingerbread house my sister and me made.We ran out of icing so we made some more up but it was to runny and there was no more icing sugar, so my sis said "lets just add baking powder as thats white". It seemed to work, it made it thicker so we slathered it all over the roof. 10 minutes later it had gone like shaving foam and started sliding off the roof! We had to scrape it all off and go to the shop for more icing powder. It turned out all right in the end though!
18th-this page has an acetate front(taken from a gift box from a Thorntons mug) with thickers on......

covering this card that one of my sons teachers gave him. I included it because the teacher has written a long message inside saying what a wonderful child my son is, how pleased she is to teach him and thanking him for just being who he is. I was so proud of this that I wanted to include it in my JYC.

19th & 20th Xmas past and visiting the light displays on the Island

21st &22nd Yule (mid winter solstice) celebrated at dawn, in the rain, at the Long Stone and a clear pocket with a voucher from my kids saying they will be my helpers all day and a song written by daughter for me for my birthday

22nd my present list and my surprise birthday meal

23rd & 24th the xmas food shop, including how much my share came to and traditions we follow on xmas eve

24th more traditions

25th the kids opening their gifts and surprise presents for me and my husband. I bought my hubby a brick at the stadium of light (football stadium) in sunderland. You pay your money and get one of the bricks of the stadium wall engraved with your name and message. So to show him what I had bought him I wrote the message on a normal house brick and wrapped that up for him! He was a bit bewildered at first but then I gave him the certificate and it all became clear! He surprised me aswell, I had already had my gift from him before xmas, an I pod Nano, so I was not expecting anything else. When all the gifts were done he appeared with this big box for me and when I opened it it was a CD Hi Fi with docking station for my I pod!

25th xmas dinner and clear pocket with receipts and gift lists

Thats it for the JYC. I am quite pleased that it is more a diary this year otherwise it would have been the same as last years one as there is only so many times you can document your traditions, cards, decorations etc in an interesting way!
