Cultural diversity day

I work for an organisation called Equals, a voluntary group set up to celebrate equality and diversity on the Isle of Wight. I work as their friendship group coordinator, running friendship groups for ethnic minority women. The group brings women together to make new friends, take part in activites, training and to aid social inclusion.

Cultural diversity day is celebrated nationally on May 15th and Equals wanted to put on an event in the centre of the Island to raise awareness of the Islands diverse community.

I was left in charge of organising this event (stressful!), something I had never done before!

We had a range of performers on the day, African drumming, belly, Latin and salsa dancing, English folk music and Samba. The highlight of the whole event was the fashion show and Poco-Poc0 dance performed by the Ladies of the friendship groups. The fashion show was mainly Indonesian costumes (as many of the women are Indonesian) and the ladies wrote to the Indonesian embassy and were allowed to borrow the embassys costumes for the event. They put together all the music and dance moves for the fashion show themselves, and made the costumes they wore to perform the Poco-Poco dance (Indonesian folk dance). This was a huge achievement for them, putting the whole thing together then performing in front of a huge crowd and I am so proud of them! I wanted to share a couple of the photos with you.

Scrap with us #14

Well its week 14 already on Scrap with us. We decided that the challenges were a bit too easy last week so spent most of our crop thinking up new ones!

The straight and narrow and use ribbon

This is my LO

I used a photo of my Son, Sister and brother in law standing on a little straight, narrow bridge.

The PP was all from my scrap box and the alphas are thickers and my little shoebox. All the ribbon is Anitas ribbon.

I like the fact that the photo also incorporates the challenge.

OK I know I've only torn one bit of paper but I like it!

7Gypsies printer tray

This is the 7Gypsies printer tray that I altered last week, the one that started the search for REAL printer trays, that led to me purchasing two and spending upteen amounts at craft stores and junk shops to find vintage stuff to fill them!! Honestly...don't get started it costs too much!!

This little panel comes out and opens up and there are family quotes inside.

I have not stuck anything in yet. I think I am going to just use a little blue tak to hold them in place then if I get bored with it after a while I can just remove the panels and do different ones.
I looked at altered printers trays all over the internet for inspiration so if you've seen that I have done something similar to something you have done I apologise!!

This is some of the vintage type stuff I have pulled together for my REAL printer tray.

This is the £10 bargin one now it has been cleaned and polished.

This is the one I bought from ebay. I was going to relist it when we found the bargin ones but its sooo pretty I don't know if I can! This one has got little copper inserts on each tray and it had already been cleaned and polished.

Extreme Makeover!

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a 7Gypsies printer tray to alter (photos to follow soon). I really enjoyed altering it so I started looking on ebay for a real printers tray. After losing my first bid I bought a buy it now one for £30. My sister then wanted one so went browsing around all the junk shops. She found this one man who said he had some and would sell them for £10 each to us, but he could not remeber where they were stored! He turned up at my sisters the next day with 4 trays (we had to get one for Paige and our other crafty friend, and of course I thought id have another one for that bargin price!). They are original trays so we could not believe the bargin price.

We spent all day yesterday scrubbing with methalayted spirit, woodworm treatment and bees wax polish to try and restore these beautiful trays.

Here they are before we started work on them.

They now look great and ready to use! I will post some more photos later. This project is definately going to take a while, we are all bidding all over ebay for vintage stuff to use in them!

If you have any ideas or links to printer trays you have altered please let me know. There are a lot of little holes to fill!!

Scrap your family

Here is my LO

The photos were taken last week on Easter sunday. I used My minds eye, penny lane papers and stamps and the gorgous new Jillibean soup corragated alphas (expensive but so lush!). I scrap lifted the LO from Scrapbook trends spring 2010 magazine

It was our monthly crop yesterday and I got 2 more LO's done aswell.

This is a photo of my Dad last week on his birthday wearing his new Ben Sherman scooter t shirt we bought him.

I don't know what the paper is as I have had it for sooo long. This is another sort of scrap lift from the same mag but I have added a pull out tab which is attached to the top chipboard bracket and pulls out from behind the journalling card. My Dad's going through chemo treatment at the moment and I wanted to write something about that but didn't want it on display for everyone to see.

This is my now, teenage son, taken on his birthday a couple of weeks ago.
The PP is prima, Dude collection and the stamp which matched perfectly is stamps away.
